Measuring is important
Tie bar pulling, also known as tie bar strain, is a phenomenon that can occur during the high-pressure die-casting process. It refers to the deformation or stretching of the tie bars that hold the two halves of the die together under the high pressures generated during casting. When the die halves are closed and clamped together by the tie bars, the molten metal is injected into the die cavity at high pressure. This pressure can cause the tie bars to bend or deform slightly, leading to a phenomenon known as tie bar pulling.
Tie bar pulling can result in a number of defects in the castings, such as flash or porosity, which can compromise the integrity and quality of the final product. To prevent tie bar pulling, it is important to carefully monitor and control the casting parameters, including the injection pressure, the temperature of the die, and the design and alignment of the die and the tie bars.
Various techniques can be employed to mitigate tie bar pulling, such as optimizing the gate and runner design, adjusting the casting parameters, and using special coatings or lubricants on the tie bars to reduce friction and wear. In some cases, it may also be necessary to replace or repair the tie bars to maintain their structural integrity and prevent deformation.
How it works
The measuring amplifier is placed on the die casting machine tie bar through two magnets. When the DCM is closed a strain gauge sensor measures the length change of the tie bar and the radio module of the measuring amplifier sends the strain measurements to the netbook (included). The amplifier has a large capacity lithium battery with long runtime. The measurement operation is incredibly simple and it takes only a few minutes.
The software
The measuring software uses these values to calculate the load on the individual tie bars and the total closing force of the machine. These values are shown on the netbook display and are also stored in a measurement protocol which contains the date, time of measurement, machine number and mould number. The measurement reports are in XLSX format and can be easily further processed. A graphical measurement diagram is also generated, which can also be saved on a USB stick.
